Bringing Guided Pathways Reforms to Life Through the “Voices of Pathways” Film Series

A new film series showcasing community colleges implementing guided pathways highlights why and how educators are undertaking these whole-college reforms and offers a refreshing way to learn from practitioners and leaders in the field.

The films, Voices of Pathways: A Series About Community Colleges and Transformational Change, humanize and contextualize what it means to work and study at community colleges. They simultaneously illustrate the challenges and successes the colleges encounter as they work to transform their students’ experiences. The five-part series features stories from faculty, staff, and students at Milwaukee Area Technical College in Wisconsin, Austin Community College in Texas, Linn-Benton Community College in Oregon, Prince George’s Community College in Maryland, and Volunteer State Community College in Tennessee.

The film series, produced by Meridian Hill Pictures, Next Chapter Communications, and Flowstate Films, is an important complement to the growing body of research on guided pathways implementation in community colleges. CCRC’s research—including fieldwork at two of the colleges featured in these films—has found many similarities in how various colleges approach the planning and implementation of guided pathways reforms. At the same time, different colleges reimagine practices in ways that are specific to their communities and students, using the framework and core concepts of guided pathways as a foundation.

CCRC researchers Amy Brown and Hana Lahr advised on the Voices of Pathways film series from early concept to final cuts.

Voices of Pathways is produced with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. For more information, contact Andrea Sussman at andrea@nextchaptercomms.com.
