Oh, The Places They'll Go: Goal-Oriented Program Onboarding Redesign

No matter what program they're pursuing, students need to know what education and employment opportunities they're working toward. To help them clarify their paths, it is critical that community colleges engage them from the start by providing supportive onboarding experiences.

For colleges engaging in guided pathways reforms, we've designed a workshop curriculum to help make the case for why students' early experiences are critical to their success. It includes planning activities to help you reimagine the program onboarding experience using our Ask-Connect-Inspire-Plan (ACIP) framework. It will also help you think about how to tailor onboarding support to meet the needs of different student groups, which is critical to achieving equitable outcomes for marginalized and underserved students.

Included in the workshop curriculum are the following components:

  • A customizable slide deck with instructions for adding your college’s data and talking points on each slide.
  • A facilitator’s guide that outlines how you can tailor the content to your college and audience.
  • A one-page workshop overview that you can use to invite workshop participants.
  • A team-based workshop activity.
  • Examples of Ask-Connect-Inspire-Plan (ACIP) practices.
