State Policies Supporting the College and Career Transitions Initiative

May 2005–January 2006

The College and Career Transitions Initiative sought to ease students’ transitions from secondary education to postsecondary education and employment by strengthening partnerships between high schools, community colleges, and local labor markets. CCRC completed a study of state policies supporting the College and Career Transitions Initiative that investigated how states can encourage the development of career pathways through legislation, regulation, and incentives. The study also looked to understand the ways in which state policies may inadvertently discourage the creation and sustainability of career pathways.

This study was funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Vocational and Adult Education, in collaboration with the League for Innovation in the Community College and the American Association of Community Colleges.
