Engaging Adjunct Faculty in the Student Success Movement

May 2016–November 2019

More than half of courses in community colleges are taught by adjunct faculty, and institutions’ reliance on part-time instructors is growing, but the field has not devised scalable strategies for engaging adjuncts in broader institutional improvement efforts. This Achieving the Dream (ATD) project seeks to build institutional capacity to better integrate and engage adjunct faculty in student success initiatives and to understand and address the opportunities and challenges faced by colleges employing part-time faculty.

Six ATD leader colleges will receive two-year planning and implementation grants to develop practices and policies to support adjuncts to improve instruction and become engaged in student success initiatives. CCRC will examine the strategies employed by the colleges, stakeholder experiences with implementation, and project outcomes.

This project is funded by The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust and Ascendium Education Group.
