October 2010–April 2011
On October 5, 2010, the U.S. Department of Education held the first White House Summit on Community College to discuss how community colleges can better meet the job training and education needs of the nation’s evolving workforce. CCRC contributed two briefs, and CCRC Director Thomas Bailey and CCRC Advisory Board Member and Macomb Community College President James Jacobs participated in the event.
Four additional regional summits were held in Philadelphia, Houston, Indianapolis, and San Diego. This series of events culminated in a virtual symposium, held on April 27, 2011. The symposium featured prominent experts and researchers who discussed bridge programs for low-skill adults, the alignment of secondary and postsecondary education, improved developmental education, and college–employer partnerships that promote curricular change. CCRC’s Thomas Bailey, Katherine Hughes, and Shanna Smith Jaggars participated in the event.
This project was funded by the Office of Vocational and Adult Education, U.S. Department of Education.
