Practitioners and policymakers need better metrics to track students’ participation and early success in DE and inform strategies to strengthen DE as an on-ramp to college and career. This session will introduce three sets of momentum metrics that capture participation and academic progress: threshold number of DE credits completed, gateway course completion in math and or English, and college credential completion while in high school. The presentation will go over the metrics and the findings on how each of these metrics predict college enrollment after high school, complete completion by roughly age 24, and time to degree completion among bachelor’s completers, based on statistical analyses using administrative data from four states. To complement these metrics, the session will summarize additional evidence from metrics that capture access and participation in DE, student experiences, and program quality. Attendees will leave the session with an understanding of the different metrics that can help practitioners and system leaders evaluate and strengthen dual enrollment programs and practices.
