DEEP Dive: Dual Enrollment as a College and Career On-Ramp

December 9, 1:00–5:00 pm ET

Nearly 2.5 million high school students nationwide take dual enrollment (DE) college courses each year providing an opportunity to explore and gain momentum into college and career pathways. In this pre-conference workshop, the Community College Research Center (CCRC) will introduce its DEEP framework, developed through extensive field research with college–K-12 partnerships that use DE as a launchpad into career-path degree programs. With a focus on expanding access for students in underserved communities, participants will learn how college-K-12 DE partnerships in local contexts are strengthening secondary and postsecondary CTE alignment through a DEEP approach. Participants will engage in reflective and planning activities using CCRC’s data dashboards and practice assessments. By the end of the workshop, participants will be prepared to clearly communicate their DE strategy and will leave equipped with actionable tools to engage K–12 and college partners in advancing student success.

Strengthening Dual Enrollment as an Onramp to College and Career Opportunity

December 10, 1:00–1:45 pm ET

Nearly a third of high school graduates nationally have taken a “dual enrollment” college course, but another third of graduates have accumulated numerous high school CTE courses but have not taken a dual enrollment course. This session will unpack how college and K-12 partners can further expand and strengthen dual enrollment programs as an on-ramp to college and career opportunity for students in high school CTE programs. Participants will learn from CCRC’s field research how colleges are extending their “guided pathways” reforms to dual enrollment in partnership with K-12 schools, and they will gain access to CCRC’s data dashboards and practice assessments to catalyze and inform efforts to better align dual enrollment and CTE programming.
