Analysis of Statewide Developmental Education Reform (ASDER)

March 2012−August 2016

This project examines multiple aspects of the developmental education reforms in the community college systems in North Carolina and Virginia. Both systems have embarked on ambitious statewide redesigns of developmental mathematics and English, aiming to reduce the amount of time students spend in remediation while increasing the effectiveness of services. The ASDER research team has published analyses on assessment and placement, college math placement and performance, reform implementation, and English learning assessment. Additional implementation and outcomes analyses are underway and will be published in 2016.

This project is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
