The computer science job sector provides high wages and is growing quickly, yet only 3 percent of bachelor’s degrees are conferred in computer science fields. Community colleges have the potential to be an important source of new computer science bachelor’s degrees, especially among women, minorities, and low-income students. In this project, CCRC explored the pathways of community college students who eventually transfer and earn bachelor’s degrees in computer science fields, including their enrollment patterns, transfer behaviors, and time to completion. This information is critical for developing effective strategies for computer science recruitment, retention, and outreach within K-12 schools, community colleges, and communities.
