Although community colleges provide a path to careers, many students enter without the reading, writing, and math skills they need for postsecondary study. At the same time, baccalaureate-granting institutions are reducing their remedial course offerings, increasing the role of community colleges in providing this instruction. Case studies show that there is more to remediation than traditional developmental education programs.
