Community colleges contribute substantially to the STEM bachelor’s and graduate education pipeline, particularly by increasing the participation of Black, Hispanic, and low-income communities. Using national longitudinal data from the National Student Clearinghouse, this session examines where community college students are lost along the transfer pathway to STEM bachelor’s completion and graduate enrollment, and how outcomes vary by student group, STEM field, and across states. Participants will gain new evidence on the barriers that shape STEM transfer success and learn where state systems and four-year institutions can strengthen transfer pathways for community college students aspiring to earn STEM degrees.
