Developmental Education Reforms on Assessment, Instruction, and Math Pathways

Date and Time: April 20, 2020 12:25 p.m.–1:55 p.m.
Location: San Francisco, CA
Venue: Moscone Center | South Building, Level 3, Room 308

One of the most critical issues in higher education is the large proportion of students deemed underprepared for college. Most community college students are assigned to at least one developmental (or remedial) course, yet few ever complete their developmental requirements. During this session, presenters will showcase the dramatic changes taking place in developmental education by sharing findings from three studies: an RCT of an approach to using multiple measures of assessment to determine college readiness, an RCT of a popular multiple math pathways model, and a descriptive study of the developmental education landscape. This session will encourage the audience to engage in a conversation about what works for their institutions and what lies ahead for the future of developmental education.
