Selene Sandoval, Research Assistant

Selene Sandoval is a research assistant at CCRC. She focuses on projects related to statewide budgets and community college funding, as well as developmental education for ESL students. Her research interests include equitable reforms in K-14 education, social mobility, and education policy. She is pursuing a master's in education policy with a focus on sociology and education at Teachers College.

Sandoval earned a BA sociology with a minor in education from the University of California, Santa Barbara. As an undergraduate, she worked with several parent education programs and non-profit organizations that assist underserved populations. In 2016, Sandoval was an academic service learning tutor at UCSB, working closely with faculty to ensure the success of first-year college students in a sequence of writing classes. In her semester abroad in Thailand, Sandoval interned as a TA in the Global Studies Department at Thammasat University. She is also working on independent research centered on school choice in New York state, with a particular focus on access to and success in specialized high schools.
