CCRC is accepting applications for the position of Systems Administrator to support and assist the center in data management tasks and the development of IT policies and procedures. CCRC is the leading independent authority on two-year colleges in the United States. We conduct research on issues affecting community colleges and work with colleges and states to improve student success and institutional performance. 

We currently have 20 ongoing projects using state, administrative, and national data stored on Linux-based servers. The ideal candidate will work with project leaders to draft and enforce data agreements in the acquisition, usage, storage, and eventual termination of the data. The candidate will also work with CCRC staff and partners to maintain servers and user accounts, as well as help store, clean, catalog, and document data.

Responsibilities

  • Support and implement software and hardware on Linux-based servers.
  • Create and manage user accounts, work with CCRC partners to perform system maintenance, and manage data backups.
  • Update documentation of technical specifications and instructions for CCRC staff.
  • Maintain data systems by establishing, maintaining, and enforcing organization and legal standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Recommend information technology strategies, policies, and procedures; identify problems; evaluate trends; anticipate requirements.
  • Contribute to team effort by understanding strengths and weakness around data practices, developing plans to address weaknesses, and engaging users to determine their needs.
  • Conduct system audits, conduct data agreement audits, and manage software installations.
  • Preserve assets by implementing disaster recovery, backup procedures, information security, and control structures.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and participating in professional societies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Expertise with Linux.
  • Experience with Stata, Windows, R, Excel, SQL, RDBMS software, and SFTP protocols.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand technical jargon, complex information, and system requirements.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and communicate complex technical information to laypeople.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and resource constraints.
  • Excellent knowledge of technical management, information analysis, computer hardware/software systems, network administration, data governance, and data security.
  • Associate degree in computer science or 2+ years' experience troubleshooting and maintaining IT systems. Certifications are a plus.
  • Takes initiative, enthusiastic to learn new skills, and is oriented to support a team of nontechnical users.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and experience managing data at a research center or in an Institutional Research (IR) capacity at a college or university.
