Transforming Transfer: Improving College Outcomes by Better Serving the Often-Overlooked Mobile Student

Conference: American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) Technology and Transfer Conference
Date and Time: July 10, 2016 4:00–5:30 PM
Location: Anaheim, CA
Venue: Anaheim Marriott

CCRC has partnered with the Aspen Institute and the National Student Clearinghouse to conduct research on community college to university transfer. The first releases of their results have provided new insights into student transfer and will serve as a valuable resource for two- and four-year institutions to develop practices to better serve community college and transfer students.

Davis Jenkins presented results of two recent products from this research: (1) a January 2016 report on measures of the effectiveness of two- and four-year institutions in enabling students to transfer and earn bachelor’s degrees; and (2) a May 2016 report on the practices of partnerships of two- and four-year institutions that have better than expected bachelor’s outcomes (based on analysis of NSC data and controlling for student and institutional characteristics) for students who start at community colleges. Presenters shared how research can inform good practice and improve degree completion.
