How to Improve Transfer Students' Bachelor's Completion: Lessons from High-Performing Partnerships

Conference: American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Annual Convention
Date and Time: April 11, 2016 3:00–4:00 PM
Location: Chicago, IL
Venue: Hyatt Regency Chicago | Gold Coast

Increasingly, state and federal policymakers are focusing not only on the number of community college students who transfer, but also on whether those students ultimately earn bachelor’s degrees. Nationally, outcomes are grim: Over 80 percent of community college students aspire to attain at least a bachelor’s degree, but fewer than one in five do so within six years of community college entry. This session featured cutting-edge research on practices of two- and four-year institutions that have strong transfer student bachelor’s completion rates. Researchers and leaders of high-performing colleges discussed how colleges can improve educational success for transfer students.
