Contextualizing Instruction: A Promising Way to Address Texas College and Career Readiness Standards

This workshop addresses program planning and teaching based on the Texas state standards, with a special focus on the cross-disciplinary standards. In particular,how standards-based instruction can be contextualized and how reading and writing can be taught to prepare adult basic education students for postsecondary education are discussed. Examples of contextualizing instruction in specific career and technical subjects, as well as academic disciplines, will be presented.
