Supplementing Developmental Education with Contextualized Reading and Writing Practice

This session discusses an intervention providing supplementary reading and writing practice to 246 upper-level developmental education students in two community colleges. Students were randomized to two text conditions within classrooms, and compared to a purposive comparison group. Statistically significant gain was found on several summarization variables (effect sizes 0.32-0.62).
