Judith Scott-Clayton

Judith Scott-Clayton, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Economics and Education in the Department of International and Transcultural Studies (Economics and Education program) at Teachers College, Columbia University (beginning September 1, 2009), where she will be teaching courses in labor economics and quantitative methods.  Her research focuses on the economics of higher education, particularly the role of financial aid policy in addressing inequalities in educational attainment.  An ongoing project evaluates the effects of a large-scale merit-based scholarship program in West Virginia and has been cited in the New York Times Magazine.  Previous research with Professor Susan Dynarski (University of Michigan) into the consequences of complexity in federal student aid has been published in the National Tax Journal and Tax Policy and the Economy, and has been cited in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Chronicle of Higher Education.  Dr. Scott-Clayton is also a Senior Research Associate at the Community College Research Center (CCRC) at Teachers College, where her work includes studies of remedial college assessment and placement policy, and the role of community college program structure in student success.  Dr. Scott-Clayton has a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
