Michelle Van Noy is a Research Associate at the Community College Research Center/Institute for Education and the Economy at Teachers College, Columbia University. She conducts research on the role of community colleges in workforce development. Her current research includes: a study of employer perceptions of the associate degree for information technology technician jobs, an evaluation of contextualized basis skills and occupational programs, and a study of the characteristics of community college occupational programs and their relationship to student outcomes. She recently completed a national study of noncredit workforce education and co-authored a report titled: The Landscape of Noncredit Workforce Education: State Policies and Community College Practice.
Prior to joining CCRC, she worked at Mathematica Policy Research, Inc. on numerous national studies including evaluations of the School-to-Work, Welfare-to-Work, and Trade Adjustment Assistance programs, and a study of information technology certification programs in high schools and community colleges.
Ms. Van Noy holds a B.A. in psychology and Spanish from Douglass College, Rutgers University and a M.S. in public policy from the Edward J. Bloustein School, Rutgers University. She is a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University.
