CCRC's work with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Vocational and Adult Education has important implications. According to journalist Anne C.Lewis, in her Direct from Washington column, "Community colleges are considered essential in the current Bush Administration’s outlook for economic development, although some of the particulars of Bush proposals are yet to be realized. One source that may have played a part in the focus on community colleges and workforce development is a study for the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Vocational and Adult Education on the characteristics of market-responsive community colleges."
