Online Learning: Coursetaking Patterns and Performance Among Underprepared Community College Students

This presentation discussed a CCRC study that extends our understanding of underprepared student performance in distance-education courses in community colleges. The study examines: (1) patterns of distance course taking among underprepared versus college-ready students; (2) college-ready and underprepared students' retention and performance in distance versus face-to-face courses; and (3) subsequent educational outcomes for underprepared and college-ready students who participate in distance leaning.

The presentation was given during Session J, "Tailoring Developmental Coursework to Meet Student Needs."
