Public community colleges receive 44% of their funding from state subsidies.


Community colleges depend on state revenues more than four-year public or private institutions. Public community colleges receive 44% of their funding from state subsidies. Public four-year colleges receive 33% of their revenues from state subsidies. 


State funding for higher education has been dropping steadily for the past 15 years. Between 2000 and 2002, annual state appropriations for full-time students declined by 15%. In the same period, state appropriations for community colleges declined by 13%.
