The College and Career Transitions Initiative (CCTI) seeks to ease students transitions from secondary to postsecondary education and employment by strengthening partnerships between high schools, community colleges and local labor markets. The initiative, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education, and administered by the League for Innovation in the Community College, is currently supporting fifteen high school-college partnerships as they align academic and technical coursework and create career pathways leading to employment in high-wage, high-growth fields.
CCRC completed a study of state policies supporting CCTI. This study sought to understand how states can encourage the development of career pathways through legislation, regulation, and incentives. It also sought to understand the ways in which state policies may inadvertently discourage the creation and sustainability of career pathways. The final report published in January 2006 summarized state policies, provided examples of innovative state efforts supporting student transitions into postsecondary education and work, and provided recommendations to state policymakers.
This research was funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education, in collaboration with the League for Innovation in the Community College and the American Association of Community Colleges.
